Astronomy Summer Camp

I will be taking five or so lucky high school students to Pine Mountain Observatory for a week of astronomy camp. I expect that I will have more than five who want to go, so I am in the process of finding a fair and equitable way to select the students. There might be some sort of an application.

Details so far:

Where: Pine Mountain Observatory, east of Bend, Oregon. Camping is at the US Forest Service primitive camp next to the observatory. Camping is rugged, pack in your own water, vault toilets, no showers.

When: Summer of 2018. Exact dates to be determined.

Who: Five or so lucky high school students led by Joe Minato (trip leader). There will also be Pine Mountain Observatory staff and several experienced amateur astronomers leading research projects.

Cost: There will be a fee, which I am presently determining, but the application process will be “need blind.” I am seeking out donors to sponsor students who can’t afford the fee. Donors: Please contact me. This is a fabulous experience for these students, your money will be well spent.

Note: This is a private project of my business Coriolis. It is not sponsored by Wilson High School or Portland Public Schools.
